Frequently Asked Questions

Which wetsuit thickness should I choose?
  • 6/4 mm hooded: 1-8 °C water, maximum insulation for ice cold climates or those of you who really feel the cold in slightly warmer waters.
  • 5/4 mm hooded: from 7-12°C and you like the attached hood (would recommend for areas with regular cold winter winds).
  • 5/4 mm non-hooded: Same warmth (7-12°C water temperatures) and flex as the hooded version, but without a hood, ideal where icy winds are less frequent, or if you prefer a separate wetsuit hood.
  • 4/3 mm: Best for 10–15 °C water temperature usually seen in late autumn or early spring across most regions.
What makes Yamamoto rubber different from neoprene?

It’s made from limestone and plant-based oils, not petroleum. Yamamoto is a leader in the industry, they use closed cell technology, so the rubber is warmer, lighter, and faster-drying. It is more flexible and keeps its shape longer. Simply a smarter material that's built to last.

How should a men’s winter wetsuit fit?

It should feel snug, almost like a second skin, tight enough to stop cold-water flushing, but not restrictive. Suits soften and mould after a few surfs, especially around the neck seal. Use our wetsuit size guide or contact us via the messenger tool for personalised fit advice.

How do I care for my wetsuit, so it lasts?

Rinse in cool fresh water after every session, hang inside out first then turn it around to dry the outside, always out of direct sunlight. Avoid heat, non-wetsuit specific detergents (use Nikwax), washing machines, and dryers, as they damage seams and linings. See full wetsuit care guide.

Why choose a hooded wetsuit?

A hood locks in heat keeping you toasty, while protecting your head and ears against wind chill. They are perfect in conditions where cold winds are common. If you don't like the feel of a fixed hood, the non-hooded 5/4 mm is a strong alternative and can be paired with a wetsuit hood or cap when the winds are chilly.

Are Simpel wetsuits eco-friendly?

Yes. We carefully design and materials to make sure we're doing the best we can. We use Yamamoto non-petroleum rubber (made from limestone and plant-based oils), recycled linings, and build for long-lasting performance to reduce waste.

We offer a recycling program for preloved wetsuits, where you can send them to us and we pay to have them recycled, issuing you a store credit as a thank you for recycling your wetsuit. Additionally, for every wetsuit purchased we donate a portion to ocean conservation.

Simpel Winter Wetsuits for Men

Simpel’s men’s winter line is stripped back to what matters: warmth, comfort, flexibility and longevity. Every wetsuit is crafted from Japanese Yamamoto rubber; a non-petroleum material made with limestone and plant-based oils. It’s lighter, warmer, and more flexible than traditional neoprene, with a smaller environmental footprint.

Inside, a recycled fast-dry thermal lining runs chest to ankle, trapping warmth and drying quickly between surfs. Seams are glued, blind-stitched, and fully taped for watertight durability and maximum stretch. An ergonomic back panel and reduced seam layout offer a natural paddle feel. The Simpel Entry system makes it fast to get in and out, even with cold hands, helping reduce heat loss when changing in icy conditions.

The Simpel winter series covers the full range of cold-water needs:

  • 6/4 mm hooded — maximum warmth for sub 8 °C water.
  • 5/4 mm hooded — deep-winter warmth in 7-12°C water temperatures with an integrated hood.
  • 5/4 mm non-hooded — identical flex and insulation to the hooded version, without a hood. designed for 7-12°C water temperature for people who prefer no hood.
  • 4/3 mm — lighter build for autumn and spring swells and water temperatures of 10-16°C.

All cuts are tailored to men’s proportions, refined through testing in real cold-water conditions by us. Designed and built to offer you Extreme warmth, ultimate comfort and fit, maximum flexibility where you need it, and made to last.
