Some surfers grow up with waves at their doorstep. Others learn early that if they want to score, they have to move. Growing up in the Mediterranean, Alessandro Piu understood that from the start. Travel became part of his rhythm, chasing better swells, new coastlines, and a clearer view of the world along the way.
Changing Skin follows Alessandro from his home island of Sardinia to the long, shifting shores of Mexico, a place that has come to feel like a second home. For him, the journey was not just about finding waves. It was about perspective.
As he puts it, “Changing Skin is about knowing how to adapt to whatever situation or condition is right in front of you, and it is a reminder to respect the wildlife and the oceans that cover our world, because at the end of the day, we are all one on this planet.”
Travel sharpened his surfing, but more importantly it shaped his mindset. Experiencing different oceans, cultures and people gave him what he describes as “a fuller picture of life.” That openness is something he carries with him both in and out of the water.
Even in a world that can sometimes feel heavy, Alessandro believes there is still something special waiting for those willing to look for it. “No matter what is going down, the world will always be a magical place for anyone who is open to living a bit outside the box.”
Changing Skin is a surf film, but it is also a reflection on movement, curiosity, and learning to meet whatever is in front of you, wherever you find yourself.
